2024 expedition
In June 2024 we plan to organize and lead a professional expedition / excursion through Kyrgyzstan, mostly through different belts of the Tian Shan Mountains at an altitude of 390 to 4100 meters above sea level. The expedition will include the pearl of Kyrgyzstan - the magnificent Issyk-Kul Lake, which is located at an altitude of 1608 meters above sea level. It is the seventh deepest lake and the second largest high mountain lake in the world. The planned altitudinal belts to be explored range from stony desert to tundra and some glaciers.
Here is a preliminary and brief description of the planned expedition.
Timing
The best time for the expedition is June. Preferred start date / day of the week will be discussed later based on the majority of participants.
Duration
The optimum duration is three weeks.
It could be shortened to two weeks, but in that case, you will miss a number of wonderful places. Also, we will have to exclude from the program a lazy day on the sandy beach of Issyk-Kul Lake and a pool with a natural hot spring.

Some changes are possible depending on the common interests of the participants and will be discussed in early 2024 when the group of participants will be formed.
Transportation
The total distance of the expedition is approximately 2000 km for 21 days, which is about 100 km per day.
We will use Mercedes Sprinter minibuses for people transportation.
Personal luggage, common expedition equipment and food supply will be transported by a truck.
Accommodation and meals
Accommodation will be in tents near rivers or lakes in scenic locations. The group will be accompanied by a service team (including professional cooks) for the entire duration of the expedition, who will provide you with meals 3 times a day. This will give us independence and flexibility from outside facilities.
Target participants
Persons with backgrounds in landscape science, physical geography, ecology, geobotany and botany, soil science, and agriculture are very welcome. Important: At least some outdoor experience is highly desirable.
The expedition program does not require much physical exertion. However, for individual trekking enthusiasts, there will of course be an opportunity to do so. Estimated number of participants is up to or around 15.
Expedition fee
It depends on the number of participants in a group, the exchange rate of EUR to KGS (Kyrgyz currency) and the general price level in the country. The fee will be announced at the beginning of 2024, when the group of participants will be formed. Rough estimate is currently about [______] for 21 days.
You will receive a receipt from a Kyrgyz organization for your financial expenses for this professional expedition.
Flights
From your nearest airport to Istanbul and then to Bishkek. There are daily flights from Istanbul to Bishkek and they are not expensive.
Visa
You do not need a visa to travel to Kyrgyzstan.
Registration
You do not need to register with the Kyrgyz migration service if you stay in the country for less than 30 days.
